The new parliament in Ottawa will begin sitting on December 5th.
Kenora Conservative MP Eric Melillo is one of the youngest on Parliament Hill and he’s anxious to get started.
“I think my generational leadership brings a certain type of energy and motivation that I’m looking forward to putting to work here and delivering some changes for the people in our riding.”
Melillo isn’t worried that he’s a rookie on the federal scene.
“The people across our region aren’t going to judge me based on my age but rather on the content of my character and the strength of our presentation that they feel I bring to the region.”
He states he’s already been hard at work meeting with as many people as he can and laying the ground work.
Thunder Bay-Superior North Liberal MP Patty Hajdu admits being part of a minority government will have its challenges, but notes cooperation is nothing new for her.
“As the Minister of Employment, a number of pieces of legislation that I introduced and that were passed were done so with the support of the NDP, in particular.”
Hajdu says “the Prime Minister is encouraging collaboration, as he always does, that we need to look for ways to listen to Canadians, to meet with Canadians and to hear from Canadians, especially those that perhaps don’t share our perspective.”
Both Melillo and Hajdu would like to see additional steps taken to make life more affordable for Canadian families.
