Ontario’s Fall Economic Statement will make life in the north more affordable.
That’s according to Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford.
Rickford says he intends to announce a decrease in Hydro rates and the long-awaited twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway in the region.
He adds one of the main highlights for our region is a cut to the aviation fuel tax.
“Tax relief on fuel transportation for planes landing and taking off for the north. That’s going to be significant. It should not cost me more money to fly from Kenora to Thunder Bay as it does from Winnipeg to Bombay.”
He adds “More importantly and for the purposes of our Indigenous communities, the tax relief that we’re providing is going to translate into potentially hundreds of dollars of savings, per family, on the costs of groceries as a result of taking that tax out.”
Rickford says over the next couple of weeks he will be making a number of announcements.
He will be in Kenora today (Tuesday) to make a land ambulance announcement impacting Dryden and Kenora as well as plans for a Science North Feasibility Study.
