The calendar has turned to November which means the forest fire season is officially over.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, there were a total of 537 fires across Ontario from April through October, a number that’s well down from last years’ total of 1,324.
More than 300 of the reported blazes were in the Northwest region.
Even though the provincial total was lower than the ten year average of 855, Information Officer Chris Marchand says more ground was burned than in previous years.
Local residents are still being asked to be careful with outdoor burning and follow all local restrictions and bylaws.
