The Northwestern Health Unit is rolling out its annual flu shot campaign.
You can now book an appointment for November on-line but anyone who is considered high risk can get the vaccine right away.
Infectious Diseases Program Specialist Shannon Brown says “Some of those groups include pregnant women, adults and children that have chronic health conditions, as well as people that are looking after those with high risk conditions.”
Brown adds health care workers, family members with small children and anyone over the age of 65 are also urged to get the shot.
Flu shots are available at pharmacies, from your family doctor or nurse, or from any health unit office.
Pharmacies can’t give the shot to anyone under 5 years old.
Brown says they encourage families with children under 5 to book an appointment with the health unit at https://www.nwhu.on.ca/ourservices/Flu/Pages/Flu.aspx or by calling 1-866-468-2240.
In addition to the flu vaccine, Brown says make sure you wash your hands frequently, ensure you are eating a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids.
Brown stresses that if you are sick, stay away from work or school.
