The Special Investigations Unit has cleared Provincial Police in Red Lake of any criminal wrongdoing in a September 13th incident.
A 31-year-old man was arrested that night for public intoxication and lodged in a cell in the OPP Red Lake detachment.
Roughly 40 minutes after he was placed in the cell, the man tripped over the toilet bowl and struck his head against the cell door.
He was transported to hospital for treatment.
The SIU says the record establishes that the man was checked regularly while in the cell and that medical attention was provided to him promptly following his fall.
Officials determined there is no potential criminal liability arising on the part of any police officer in connection with the man’s period in custody and the injury he sustained.
