A Political Science Professor is weighing in on the results of the Federal election.
Don Desserud says the Liberals did much better than he expected and he thinks the Liberals are probably very relieved with the results.
He says this is what they call a healthy minority, so they should be pleased..
Desserud was surprised with the final results for the NDP.
Desserud says he didn’t expect the party to do overly well, but the 24 seats they were elected in, was lower than he thought.
As a political scientist, he tends to like a minority government because they are really interesting.
He says it can work very well, but it can also be a double edged sword..
Desserud stresses just because the NDP hold the balance of power, it does not mean they will be able to drive the agenda.
He says if the NDP leader tries to get the upper hand on Justin Trudeau, he expects the Prime Minister to quickly point out that the number of NDP seats has gone down from 2015 and if they consider forcing an election, it could be disastrous for them.
The Bloc Quebecois increased to 32 seats.
Desserud says these may just be voters, who have parked themselves with this party, because they don’t like the Liberals, the Conservatives or the NDP.
