The MPP for the Kenora-Rainy River Riding says funding announced this past week in Dryden and Kenora is much the same as the Canada-Ontario infrastructure program.
Greg Rickford says they they based the funding formula on similar projects they are carrying out with the federal government.
“Was 83% provincial funding. 17% municipal funding. So, we took the Infrastructure Canada model, applied it to our rules for consistency because that helps the municipalities prepare their applications.”
Premier Doug Ford announced $1.4 million for upgrades to Van Horne Avenue and $3.9 million for Railway Street in Kenora.
Meantime, an announcement of the twinning of Highway 17 west of Kenora is expected before the new year.
Greg Rickford says there’s been positive developments on that front and he hopes to provide more information in the next month.
The long-awaited project is more than ten years in the making.
