With the federal election coming down to the wire, CKDR News looks at the final candidate in the Kenora Riding.
The New Democrats are represented by Rudy Turtle.
Turtle says he is spending much of his time in northern communities.
“We have been going to mostly to First Nations doors”
Turtle says “We have had a good response and we have had people welcome us and it’s been good.”
He says one concern he hopes to raise if elected is mercury poisoning in Grassy Narrows First Nation.
“I would like to see the river cleaned up but at this stage right now they are just doing studies and the purpose of those studies is to see what kind of techniques they could use to clean up the river, or if it is even possible to clean up the river.”
Turtle says “Right now our scientists think that it could be cleaned up. It’s just a matter of how and where and when. Like I mentioned, it’s just a matter of which techniques they could use.”
Turtle is Chief of Grassy Narrows but he stresses his focus remains on all of the riding.
