A national group is raising awareness of child poverty in Canada.
Campaign 2000 has released a report outlining its impact in each one of the 338 ridings across the country.
National Coordinator Leila Sarangi says its release during the election campaign was on purpose.
“We do want to be hearing from all parties about what their approach to ending child and family poverty will be. This was a promise first made at Parliament 30 years ago.”
Sarangi notes the national rate is almost 19%, stressing we can do much better and we need to be doing much better and this should be a priority issue.
Campaign 2000 says over 6,300 children in the Kenora riding were living in poverty in 2017.
In excess of 3,800 children in the Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding were living in poverty in 2017.
More than 3,500 children in the Thunder Bay-Superior North riding were living in poverty in 2017.
