The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
The Education Quality and Accountability Office has changed the way it calculates math test scores.
Acting Director of Education for the Keewatin Patricia District School Board Caryl Hron says the changes are the result of local school visits from EQAO staff.
Hron says “They got feedback about our circumstances and how we have a very transient population. We have lot’s of kids who come from the North that have never seen the entire curriculum or have exposure to it. So, they took our recommendations back and have made some changes for this year, so we are very excited.”
Hron says under new guidelines EQAO will take two test scores; those who just entered the system and those who have spent two or more years with the Ontario curriculum.
The changes impact all students in Grade 3, 6 and 9.
Math test scores have been below the provincial average at the public school board and that hasn’t changed in the past ten years.
