For the second time in consecutive nights the Dryden GM Ice Dogs withstood a rally from Fort Frances.
Malcolm Huemmert ended up scoring the winning goal in the third as the Ice Dogs defeated visiting Fort Frances 4-3 in front of nearly 600 fans Saturday night.
Dryden GM jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period and then went up 4-2.
They were able to bottle the Lakers up in their own zone in the final minute.
Sioux Lookout’s Ben Forbes scored his first SIJHL goal, while Gavyn Galloway scored in his first game.
Dryden GM outshot Fort Frances 47-37.
Jacob Anthony picked up the victory.
The Ice Dogs wrap up their three game weekend series at home on Sunday at 3:30 against Wisconsin.
In Red Lake, Shaye Sommerfeld continued his hot start to the season with two more goals.
He scored the winner 41 seconds into the second period en route to a 3-1 win over Wisconsin.
The 20-year-old now has four on the young campaign.
Ethan Stuckless added an insurance goal.
Shots were even at 31, with Zack Willms picking another win.
Elsewhere, Thunder Bay got past Thief River Falls 3-2.
