It was a huge crowd for Homecoming and the Dryden Eagles High School Football team didn’t disappoint.
The Eagles dominated from start to finish in an emotional 22-7 win over the visiting St. Norbert Celtics Thursday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, Dryden exploded in the second.
Gage Delorme got things going with a field-goal.
The Eagles would make it a 10-0 game a short time later with a 4 yard touchdown run from Peter Zilkalns.
The major was set up by an Adrian Brannon-Larocque interception.
Dryden’s defence only made one mistake in the contest and St.Norbert would pounce on it with a 70 yard touchdown pass.
The second half belonged to the Eagles as they marched down the field on nearly every possession, both on the ground and through the air.
Nick Pinette scored in the third quarter with a 2 yard touchdown run.
Troy Kirouac would ice the game in the fourth with a 12-yard major to Brody McMurrich.
That score wouldn’t have been possible without some heroics from Kirouac.
A few plays before, the Dryden Quarterback was pressured, sending him way back in his own zone.
He appeared to be dead in the water and close to hitting the ground, when he some how escaped, ran outside and threw an Aaron Rogers-like Hail Mary to Gage Delorme deep in St. Norbert territory.
The miracle pass completely deflated a tired Celtics team.
Karson Bibeau recorded an interception, while Mike Kusano registered a sack in the game.
The contest was a physical one, with several injuries on both sides of the ball.
The highlight was a punishing block on a Celtic defender courtesy of Dom Morriseau.
After an 0-2 start, the Eagles are now 2-2.
They hit the road next Friday to play St. John’s.
