The City of Kenora is expected to pay over $6-million for police service in 2019.
That’s too much according to Mayor Dan Reynard.
He says runaways from many communities outside the city are responsible for the increased calls for service.
Reynard says the OPP Detachment Commander indicated that about 18 children came to live in the community from other supervised homes over 500 times.
He points out each one of those is a call for service for police.
Earlier this month an Aboriginal Child and Family Services agency created a new five person unit, including a co-ordinator in order to reduce the number of runaways in Kenora..
