Canada’s Chief Electoral Officer is hoping he’s solved issues that plagued the 2015 vote in some Indigenous communities.
Some First Nations a shortage of ballots and polling stations open late.
Stephane Perrault says he’s been working with them to prevent a repeat this election.
Perrault notes he’ engaged some 96 communities that show indicators of under registration or service problems
He says those discussions have been ongoing since this spring.
Perrault is also encouraging people in remote areas who can’t get to advance polls to vote by mail and to do is sooner than later.
He notes the deadline for receiving the ballot back at Elections Canada is 6:00 on October 21st.
Perrault also wants to hire more Indigenous people to work at the polls.
