A new business organization hopes they’ll be able to foster better communication between First Nations communities and non-Indigenous businesses in northern Ontario.
The Anishnawbe Business Professional Association launched earlier this year as a vehicle for empowering aboriginal communities.
President Jason Rasevych says they see opportunities in connecting First Nations with resource projects like mining and transmission lines.
“A lot of communities, they’re very busy with dealing with community related issues against developing their own private sectors and the business community and looking at partnerships. There seems to be some gaps there.”
Rasevych stresses there needs to be a conversation about the different types of partnership models that can be explored.
