It’s election day west of the provincial boundary.
Manitobans are heading to the polls today (Tuesday, September 10th) for the 42nd time in the province’s history.
The election was formally called last month by Premier Brian Pallister, who had been hinting that he would be calling an election for quite some time.
Pallister and his Progressive Conservative majority government took power in 2016, replacing Premier Greg Selinger and an NDP government that had been in place for over a decade.
The Premier has run his campaign on continuing to reduce taxes and the provincial deficit.
Pallister’s main opposition is the NDP’s Wab Kinew, who has pledged to stop budget cuts in areas like health care and education.
Kinew, who is originally from northwestern Ontario, was elected as the leader of the Manitoba NDP just under two years ago.
Today’s vote comes a year before the PC’s mandate was up.
Voting stations will close across the province at 8:00pm.
