The PC government is making sure all schools in Ontario allow service dogs for students who need them.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says much of the work was done by Amy Lee, parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Children, who has four kids, two with autism.
Lee says many families have struggled for years to be able to bring their dogs to school.
“It can be a child with autism who struggles to regulate their emotions and through the use of their autism service dog is able to attend class and confidently participate in their education.”
Lee adds children who suffer from seizures need their dogs to help in the event of an episode or emergency.
She also notes children with diabetes need their dogs to help if their blood sugar drops too low.
