The Salvation Army stresses as long as their is a need for their services in Kenora, they will be there to help.
Community Ministries Director Sandra Poole says demand for their services and programs goes up year after year.
Fortunately, Poole says the community is quick to respond with donations and assistance.
“We get such huge support. We send the call out and it comes. It reduces me to tears every Christmas and it just blows my mind. We ask for the help and it comes.”
Poole says last Christmas they put out over 200 hampers and every year that need increases.
She points to a housing crisis and drug use in the community.
The 217 applications assisted 529 individuals last year, of which 210 were children.
She adds last year the Salvation Army received 476 application requests from 164 households in Kenora for its Food Program.
Poole addressed Dryden Rotary members this past week.
