An important Salvation Army fundraiser that provides practical assistance to individuals and families is returning to Dryden.
The Christmas Kettle Campaign hasn’t been offered in the community for several years but is being revived this year.
Sandra Poole is the Community Ministries Director For Dryden and Kenora and she addressed Dryden Rotary on Wednesday.
She says “the Kettle Campaign is known across the country. It’s the Salvation Army’s largest fundraiser. Every unit looks after their own campaign and whatever they raise locally, stays in that community.”
Poole is now hoping volunteers step forward to launch the program in 2019.
Anyone interested can call Shannon at 223-3110.
As part of the campaign, Poole hopes to donate up to 50 turkeys to the Christmas Cheer Board.
Meantime, the Salvation Army is trying to increase its presence in Dryden.
Poole admits they only have a small visibility in the community right now.
“We have our Thrift Store, which is open six days a week, 10:00am until 4:30pm most days. We sell clothing, we can sell household (items), books, linens, towels, we also do toys.”
You can find the store at 34 Whyte Avenue.
Poole notes they are always looking for clothing donations.
The Salvation Army in Kenora offers Food Bank support, a social assistance program, Christmas Hampers, emergency disaster services as well as assists fire victims.
