The pink insurance slips you are required to carry in your car can now be a thing of the past.
Effective Thursday, September 5th, an electronic version of the proof of insurance is now legal in Ontario.
Finance Minister Rod Phillips says this will make life easier and more convenient for motorists.
Phillips says they have worked with both law enforcement and the Canadian Automobile Association to ensure that the pink slips can be made into electronic form.
“Obviously different insurance companies will have different approaches in terms of how they roll it out.”
Phillips adds “it’s going to be a matter of how easy insurers can make it with an App and other kinds of tools.”
He notes government consultations found close to 70% of people wanted these kind of options.
Phillips stresses three province’s already had e-insurance slips, and it was time Ontario got in on the act.
