The new Youth Centre in Dryden is showing what they are doing in the community, as well as the benefits of the program.
Speaking to Dryden Rotary, Co-Chair Community Safety and Well-Being Steering Committee Ann Tkachyk says 120 different youth visited the Centre during the time it was open for 37 days with 584 sign-ins.
There were no calls to police during that period.
However, Tkachyk admits they now need help.
“Unfortunately we are in crisis right now with the loss of a funding stream for a youth facilitator.”
She is hoping Rotary helps them in funding efforts and to champion for the continued operation of the facility.
Tkachyk stresses “The need and the demand for a Youth Centre in our community is apparent. It was a priority that was identified back in 2018.”
She notes young people want and need a safe place to go.
Vanessa Shepherd also spoke at the meeting.
Rotary member and Councillor Shayne MacKinnon says “he can’t speak for all of council, but he supports the Youth Centre 100%, which is expected since he has supported its revitalization and supported it in the past as well before I moved here.”
