Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce has announced class sizes in September will remain effectively the same as last year.
The government has unveiled very modest changes to the classroom numbers.
Despite a pledge to increase the number of students as early as this year, Lecce says there will be no changes to class sizes for students in kindergarten to Grade 3, while one additional student will be added per class in Grades 4 to 8.
High school class sizes will average 22.5 students, not 28 as first believed.
The move comes as contracts for Secondary teachers are set to expire on August 31st.
Lecce says “Our mission remains to land a deal in good faith, that puts our students first, so parents and educators can have the predictability they deserve.”
“From day one, I have made it clear that I was intent on listening to, and working with, our education sector partners.”
