Some financial help to Seine River First Nation with its construction of a new cultural centre.
The federal government is kicking in $700-thousand towards the project in the community located around 200 kilometres south of Dryden
The new facility will include workshop spaces where traditional skills, crafts and other art activities will take place, as well as an exhibition and archival storage areas.
Another $70-thousand is being awarded to hire staff who’ll assist in the development of future program at the centre.
Seine River First Nation Chief Tom Johnson says that the government’s support allows them to lay down an important foundation for the future.
“Seine River First Nation is grateful for the continued support from our local MP Don Rusnak and the financial contribution from Canadian Heritage administering the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund,” says Chief Johnson, “…this is certainly a welcomed step towards reconciliation while providing a great opportunity for our community and region alike to celebrate our arts and culture.”
Construction of the new 7,500 square foot centre is already underway.
