Familiarizing himself with the department and the City of Dryden as a whole.
That’s what the Dryden Fire Service’s new fire chief, Rob Grimwood, is doing after being appointed to the position on Monday.
Grimwood says that keeping up with health and safety rules is a major priority as many rules have seen changes over the past few years which to he wants to make sure they keep up.
He also says all of his experience comes from communities in Southern Ontario so he’ll be adjusting to some of the unique challenges we face in the northwest.
He says he was attracted to Dryden because of the demographics of the area and the size of the department as it is small enough to be involved in all aspects of operations, but still large enough to keep himself busy.
Grimwood says he was looking for a volunteer department with a good base of committed volunteers where he can bring his health and safety background to.
Some goals include updating and approving the City’s emergency plan and working on fire prevention programs with public education and inspections of buildings being built.
He also says once he settles in, another priority is tackling the training program.
As mentioned previously, Grimwood has 23 years of experience as both a volunteer and career firefighter with the last 12 serving as Fire Chief in multiple communities including Niagara-On-The-Lake.
