The government is taking action to better respond to an emergency in Ontario.
Ten specialized emergency response teams are being set up, including one out of Thunder Bay, that will be able to be deployed anywhere in northwestern Ontario.
Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says there’s a need for these squads.
“At a time when natural disasters such as flooding, tornadoes and extreme weather are becoming more frequent, we need to ensure that Ontario is prepared.”
Jones notes the squads will have the ability to respond to large-scale disasters or significant spills of contaminants.
$2.5-million is being invested in the program.
