The Kenora District Services Board says it will ensure that homeless people are displaced as little as possible during the 45 day closure of the Emergency Shelter in Kenora.
Patti Fairfield is Executive Director of Ne-Chee Friendship Centre and operates the shelter on behalf of the DSAB.
She says they will have their employees kept busy during the closure.
“Almost like Street Patrol, but more comprehensive,” says Fairfield.
“Bringing them food, so when I say food, I mean sandwiches, water, checking on their safety. Are they okay living on the street.”
The KDSB says it will ensure funding to make sure the Jubilee Church and the Fellowship Center on Water Street are able to provide meals while the Emergency Shelter is closed.
