Grand Council Treaty #3 says it wants to be part of the solution to Kenora’s homeless situation.
Frances Kavanaugh is the grand chief and says they want to work with all levels of government to address the challenges facing the city’s Emergency Shelter.
Earlier this week, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford and the Kenora District Services Board announced it will be closing the emergency shelter for 45 days starting in August to find a solution to the problems it was facing.
Kavanaugh says there is a need to share ideas and collectively solve the problem.
Kiiwetinoong NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa says Greg Rickford’s decision to close the shelter without notice is wrong, and he needs to provide answers immediately.
