After two Thunderstorm Warnings and associated thunderstorms earlier this morning, Environment Canada has issued a wide Thunderstorm WATCH for much of our area, for much of the day.
Environment Canada says favourable conditions for the development of severe thunderstorms will continue through the afternoon and into this evening. The main threats are strong wind gusts and large hail.
The Watch covers the Dryden/Vermilion Bay area, Sioux Lookout/Hudson, Ignace and Fort Frances/Atikokan.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
