Four new starts as of yesterday afternoon.
That’s the latest update from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry on the fire situation in the northwest region.
Three of the new fires are in the Sioux Lookout district and are being observed by crews, while the fourth is located around 12 kilometres southeast of Ignace and is not under control.
The out of control blaze, designated Dryden 18, was last mapped at 0.2 hectares in size.
The MNRF tells us that there are currently 23 active fires in the region, including two that are not under control.
The fire hazard sits at high to extreme in the western portion of the region, and moderate to low in the eastern portion.
