Environment Canada is looking at weather moving from Minnesota as the reason to be mindful of tornadoes in northwestern Ontario.
While Meteorologist Peter Kimbel admits twisters in this area are rare, they can happen.
Kimbel says there was a serious one a few years ago at a Sioux Lookout area camp and it caused a fatality.
An angler from the United States was killed in the event.
Kimbel notes it looks like not much came from tornado watches and warnings issued by Environment Canada for certain areas of northwestern Ontario on Wednesday.
He says the greater concern was along the U.S. border and south of the border where the air is warmer.
However, Kimbel says they did receive reports of what appeared to be a funnel cloud over Lake of the Woods.
Several tornadoes were seen touching down in parts of northeastern Minnesota.
