Anna Bergagnini
February 11, 1946 – July 13, 2019
On July 13, 2019 Anna Bergagnini passed away unexpectedly, she is now flying with the angels and finally reunited with her cherished daughter Maria. Regretfully she leaves behind her devoted husband of 54 years, Tullio Bergagnini, her cherished children, Carmela, and Tom Bergagnini, and Silvana (Jeff) Edenburn, her precious grandchildren Torin (Kendra), Kayla, Sienna, Kiara Bergagnini, Chace Laffin, Barett and Everett Edenburn. She also had many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart. She will be met at Heaven’s gate by her treasured daughter Maria Bergagnini, brother Antonio Carlucci, parents Christina and Carmen Carlucci plus her friends and family that have passed over the years.
Anna was born February 11, 1946 in Santa Maria Del Molise, Italy. She lived there with her adored siblings, Dora, Pina, Antonio, John, Maria, and Elizabeth. She always said, “We didn’t have much, but we had each other and that’s what mattered most.” At the tender age of 16, she moved to Canada and joined her siblings to build a better life. She courageously went to work at various jobs despite not speaking English. She overcame this setback, by teaching herself to read and write English by reading novels. She became a Canadian citizen in June 1978 and was always so proud of this accomplishment.
On the dock in Wabigoon, Anna met her soulmate, Tullio. They married December 11, 1964. She was so happy to add his siblings Rita, Lorenzo and Tony to her family. Together, everyone made great memories, and ensured family always came first.
Anna and Tullio settled in Vermilion Bay and began their journey of building a legacy. Anna was a stay-at-home Mom who never missed the opportunity to be a part of her children’s experiences. She was at every event, big or small, a proud mother giving her presence to her children. Her love for her children was larger than life. In 1994, Anna became Nana, which became her new identity. She always took the time to speak about her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments as she was so proud of everybody. She gave us all the gift of endless love, time, and sacrifice. Anna was a true matriarch and her loving home was always the meeting place for family and friends whether for coffee, a family meal, or a brewski.
Over the years, she had the opportunity to travel. She returned to Italy three times (most recently with her children), relaxed on several hot vacations, plus took part in every opportunity to holiday with her children and grandchildren. She was never shy or reluctant to take advantage of making memories that would last a lifetime.
Community was so important to her and she took on roles to help improve and make Vermilion Bay a better place to live. She was an integral part of the family-owned business, Fort Vermilion, where you were guaranteed to be greeted with her smile and warm welcome. Her special touches were infused into the business, which spread love and happiness to all. Over the years there, she fostered many friendships near and far. She made the Fort feel like a second home to many who came through its doors.
After the sale of Fort Vermilion, she was finally able to embrace retirement, which allowed her to spend more time with her family and friends, especially Joyce Poirier and Ed Carson, along with many others. With her newfound time, she took part in more community activities, which made her so happy. There was never a moment where she didn’t feel the need to help, share her love or voice her concerns – her heart was golden.
“All that we are, or hope to be, we owe to our angel Anna.”
