Evacuations of Pikangikum First Nation have been put on hold as rain has helped improve air quality.
A nearby forest fire is now listed at 44,736 hectares but Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry crews have been able to make good progress on the blaze.
Crews are working on extinguishing hot spots and the full evacuation has been suspended for now.
Community officials note the situation will be monitored on a day by day basis.
The Ministry says good progress is being made on a large fire burning near Keewaywin First Nation.
The blaze is listed at 95,623 hectares in size but is being kept away from the community.
Crews are continuing to work on spot fires along Donson Creek and Dawson River and the flames are being moved towards nearby lakes and rivers.
Sprinklers have been set-up to help protect property and the community remains evacuated.
Crews are also making great progress on a fire burning near Nungesser Lake, about 40-kilometres north of Red Lake.
The Ministry says rain has helped in suppression efforts.
Officials note the blaze is still considered not under control and currently stands at 30,212 hectares in size.
51-crews are currently assigned to the fire.
Despite a reduction in the forest fire hazard, there were five new starts reported Sunday across northwestern Ontario.
Three of the blazes were in the Red Lake district, while one new fire sparked in the Sioux Lookout area.
All are small and not expected to cause any troubles.
There are 20 active fires currently burning in the region, seven considered not under control.
The hazard is generally low to moderate thanks to recent rain.
