Ontario’s Solicitor General is weighing in on the forest fire crisis impacting northern Ontario.
So far there are two communities that are under evacuation orders.
Pikangikum residents are heading to Kapuskasing and Hearst, while people from Keewaywin, near Red Lake, are being housed in Sioux Lookout and Timmins.
Sylvia Jones says she’s reached out to mayors across the province to see what assistance they can provide.
Jones says there is an urgent need for communities to host evacuees.
She stresses the government is working closely with the Provincial Police, community leaders, provincial ministries, the federal government and other agencies to ensure the health and safety of those affected.
