Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa is calling on the province to pitch in and help those who have been evacuated from Keewaywin First Nation.
The Ontario NDP critic of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation says the recent emergency declaration in Sioux Lookout brings home the point that Premier Doug Ford must act to ensure that municipalities in the north have the resources needed to help with evacuations.
Mamakwa says the government must also work with northern towns and First Nation communities to support emergency preparedness training and evacuation plans.
He adds that the province needs to be proactive in responding to climate change emergencies like the fire near Keewaywin.
