Despite some rain, the fire hazard remains high to extreme across the region.
20 new starts have been reported over the last two days.
12 occurred yesterday (Wednesday) in the Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Fort Frances districts.
There are 28 active fires currently burning in the region, 12 are listed as not under control.
A raging forest fire burning 12 kilometres southwest of Keewaywin has grown in size from 37,000 hectares to 54,643 hectares in size.
The blaze has resulted in the evacuation of the community of roughly 340 residents with Sioux Lookout acting as a host right now.
The municipality says they are able to lodge 210 evacuees.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says it’s funnelling in fire crews and equipment on a consistent basis in an attempt to tame the out of control blaze.
Crews also continue to try and gain the upper hand on an out of control fire burning 40-kilometres north of Red Lake.
The blaze is listed at 5,000 hectares in size and crews are reinforcing control lines and guards along the fire front and air attack continues.
The Ministry and Provincial Police are still allowing traffic flow along Nungesser Road.
The road will be accessible with a controlled pilot vehicle until 6:00 today. (Thursday)
OPP stress the situation could change quickly and the public should expect delays and slow movement on the road.
