The remote northern community of Keewaywin is being evacuated due to a nearby raging forest fire.
The blaze was last listed at 37-thousand hectares and is burning 16-kilometres southwest of the community.
Sioux Lookout has declared a State of Emergency to allow the community to act as a host site.
The municipality registered 87 evacuees yesterday (Tuesday) and was expecting 122 more today. (Wednesday)
Brian MacKinnon is the Public Information Officer for the Sioux Lookout Emergency Control Group and he says they are able to lodge 210 evacuees.
MacKinnon says the focus is on the elderly, young children, pregnant women and people needing specific health supports.
An Emergency Declaration allows the municipality to recoup any costs from both levels of senior government.
