A Provincial Police officer in Thunder Bay is facing a charge of sexual assault.
The province’s civilian police watchdog says it’s in connection with an incident which happened in the early 2000’s.
The Special Investigations Unit was contacted by the OPP in February of this year regarding a complaint received that same day of a sexual nature against the officer with the Thunder Bay detachment.
The alleged sexual assault reportedly occurred sometime between April of 2001 and March of 2002 against a woman.
Charged is 43 year old Constable John Hayes.
He’s due to appear in court in two weeks.
