Bob Izumi’s ‘Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire’ Fishing Days is back for another year.
The fun and free event brings together law enforcement and youth for an afternoon of fishing.
Dryden Police Community Services Officer Denise Szachury was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show today (Wednesday).
Szachury says it allows officers to talk and fish with the kids and create a sense of security, friendship and a bond with them.
“If they ever need to go to the police or talk to the police for anything that they have a level of confidence and familiarity with them and that their comfortable to do that.”
The tournament is Saturday from noon until 2 at the Government Dock and you can register now by visiting the Pool and Fitness Centre.
You don’t need a fishing rod to take part, but you can call 223-1137 to secure one for the day.
Bait will also be made available.
There are prizes for everyone and lunch and drinks are provided.
Sponsors include Canadian Tire Dryden, Dryden Police Service, Safeway, City of Dryden, Police Association of Ontario and Double K Baits.
The event is part of Free Fishing Week Activities.
