A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of the region.
The notice impacts Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Red Lake and Ear Falls.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail.
Thunderstorms are forecast to develop late this afternoon into early this evening.
The main concern with these thunderstorms will be strong wind gusts to 90 km/h and hail at least 2 cm in diameter.
