A Thunder Bay based program to help the less fortunate may be expanding to Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Kenora and Fort Frances.
“Blessing Box” fills wooden boxes with non-perishable food to be located at various homes.
It’s run by the group ‘Giant Hearts.’
Spokesperson Lyndsay Alessandro says the initiative has really taken off, with several communities expressing interest to be a host.
Alessandro says “We are going to be teaching them, sort of, how we’ve been running everything here. We will probably be visiting those communities too and going and helping them, giving them the rundown. And then once they are confident that they can manage it themselves, we will just step back.”
Organizers add the boxes are meant for anyone who has a need, and are filled by anyone who wishes.
Part of the campaign is also doing street outreach and clean-up.
