Friday is National Indigenous People’s Day and activities will be happening at the Dryden Memorial Arena.
The day was first celebrated as National Aboriginal Day in 1996 and is celebrated annually on June 21st.
The Dryden Native Friendship Centre is hosting the event at the arena at 11:30am and there will also be vendors as well.
Executive Director Cheryl Edwards says everyone is welcome to come out to the free event and says many students from school will be at the event as well.
Edwards also says the holiday is held on June 21st since Summer Solstice holds a lot of cultural significance.
The Northwest Metis Nation in Dryden is also hosting a barbeque at its office on King Street.
Meantime, the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre and the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre will host Anishinaabe Giizhigan Celebrations at the Main entrance of the hospital.
