Urology surgeries will soon be offered at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
The hospital has announced a partnership with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to offer the program.
Chief Executive Officer Wade Petranik says a visiting physician will visit the hospital on a trial basis starting next month.
“We’re looking at mainly kind of day surgery type of procedures and the consultations which are also really valuable. So we will have on-site consultations for many of the patients.”
Petranik says the Urology services are generally a men’s health issue but notes it does impact some women as well.
Petranik says the service will be a learning curve, noting both organizations at taking things slowly and cautiously.
He notes the ultimate goal is reducing necessary travel to Thunder Bay or Winnipeg for impacted patients.
