The Red Lake Anishinaape Pow Wow Circle is hosting its 16th Annual Traditional Pow Wow.
The two day celebration starts at 6:00pm tonight Friday at Keesic Beach.
Co-Chair Marney Vermette says the event is free of charge.
There is camping available on site.
Vermette says “everybody is welcome and encouraged to participate in learning and sharing more about First Nations culture. There will be drummers there. We have two host-drums and a co-host drum from around the area.”
“We’ll also have elders there that will be sharing some teachings throughout the festivities. So really it’s about coming together and sharing and learning more about First Nations culture as well as learning about the Anishinaape history.”
Grand Entry on Saturday starts at Noon.
Attendees will also be able to see a new addition to Keesic Beach at the Pow Wow.
Vermette says after three years of fundraising, the organization has unveiled a new arbour for the community to enjoy.
She stresses construction of arched structure was a team effort.
Vermette says they have a dedicated volunteer group of about ten individuals who worked alongside community members and organizations to make the arbour a reality.
