Another school year is in the books at the Confederation College Campus in Dryden.
27 students walked across the stage on Wednesday to accept various diplomas and certificates.
Early Childhood Education graduate, Hayley Zilkalns says she hopes to work in the community now that she’s done school.
She says one of her main goals is getting a job at Open Roads Public or St. Joseph’s School.
Other graduates completed programs in Business, Personal Support Worker, Pre-Health Sciences and more.
The Dryden Campus Award of Excellence was given to Jayme Gamble who graduated from the Early Childhood Education program with a remarkable 4.0 grade point average.
Academic Awards of Excellence were given to Galina Kusano, Business Accounting; Jayme Gamble, ECE; Kaci Ketterer, Personal Support Worker; Jenna Dudar, Practical Nursing and Taylor Johanson, Pre-health Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees.
The college saw a record breaking enrollment number this year of 3,700 fulltime students across all campuses and distance education programs have been well subscribed as well.
This was the first year of graduation ceremonies for new Confederation College President Kathleen Lynch.
Lynch says it’s always a touching moment to see graduates walk across the stage to accept their diplomas and certificates.
“The hard work, many of them are parents coming back to school, many didn’t think this day would ever come for them. So it’s just great to be here and witness the success they’ve had and wishing them all the success in the future.”
The Sioux Lookout Convocation ceremony is today (Thursday) at 11:30 at St. Andrew’s United Church.
