An out of control forest fire is burning in the community of Pickle Lake.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the 600 hectare blaze is burning between the town site and the neighbouring area of Central Patricia.
The Ministry has assigned water bombers and attack crews to the blaze.
The main road in the community is closed to assist crews in suppression efforts.
There have been several reports to CKDR News that residents have been warned to prepare for an evacuation.
Town officials say “Pickle Lake is not under an evacuation alert at this time. Residents have been asked to return to their homes. MNRF and Pickle Lake Fire and Rescue are suppressing hot spots.”
Meantime, power is out in some parts of the community and Crolancia Public School will be closed to students and staff today. (Friday)
Hydro One says power has been partially restored but there are still 461 customers in the dark.
The community hall will be open at 8 am Friday morning as a charging spot for phones as well as a space for cooking.
Residents without generator power are welcome to bring light breakfast items to the hall for cooking.
The Town Office will also be relocated to the Community Hall.
