Vito passed away unexpectedly on May 28th at the age of 44. He is survived by his sisters Dora (Dave), Donna (Justin), Carmelina (Craig), nieces and nephews; Talia, Tianna, Caitlin, Amelia, Keenan, Marley and Aleena. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Teresa.
Vito was born and raised in Red Lake by Frank and Teresa Tarantino along with his sisters Dora, Donna and Carmelina. From a young age he loved the outdoors and working with his dad, and as a teenager started his first paying job at West End groceries. From there he later started working at Lakeside Marine where he learned about engines and started a welding apprenticeship. Eventually Vito ventured into his own opportunity of doing some welding work for the mines and that was how VTL Limited was born. Vito was never scared of a little hard work and as the years progressed, he built a team of good workers and friends to help him build a great little business. As things moved forward, he became interested in the idea of buying a tourist camp and came across a great opportunity with Viking Island Lodge and then Viking Outposts. With these new ventures on the horizon Vito jumped in whole heartedly and began some camp updating along with learning how to fly. Vito had just begun planning his future towards a retirement plan, camp life and fishing adventures were on the horizon. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at 12 noon in the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion.
A private interment will follow at a later date in the Red Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Vito’s memory may be made by cheque to the Red Lake District Lions Club through the Red Lake Chapel, P.0. Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
