Premier Doug Ford continues to defend his use of the controversial “notwithstanding” clause in a bid to cut Toronto’s City Council in half.
Ford says he was elected to reduce the cost of government and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
He says when people see savings on their hydro bill and lower taxes, they can then decide in four years if it was the right decision.
Meantime, Ontario’s NDP Leader is taking aim at the PC government move.
Andrea Horwath asked Doug Ford in the Legislature Wednesday why he didn’t announce his plan during the election campaign.
Horwath was booted out along with several hecklers who interrupted proceedings.
Bill-5 has passed at Queen’s Park.
It’s expected to become law at the end of the month.
