A large lightning caused forest fire burning just north of the Wabaseemoong First Nation is finally under control.
Kenora Fire 71 sparked on July 15th and has been the main fire of concern this Summer.
It’s now at just over 10,200 hectares in size, but crews have a handle on it.
Up to 200 firefighters, including many from out-of-province and Minnesota, took part in suppression efforts at its peak.
18 crews and nine helicopters remain on-site for mop-up efforts and extinguishing hotspots that are burning as deep as 40 centimetres.
Meantime, the forest fire hazard remains high to extreme across northwestern Ontario.
There were four new fires on a cooler Tuesday in the Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Kenora and Thunder Bay districts.
There are 75 active blazes in the region, eight considered not under control.
