The Nuclear Waste Management Organization says it could be another year before all the data on a bore hole in the Ignace area is fully analyzed.
Work on the first hole was completed at the end of last month.
Pat Dolcetti is a spokesperson for the NWMO and says this is just the first phase of an extensive testing program.
He says the initial hole was just over one thousand meters deep.
Ignace is one of five sites being still being considered for a nuclear waste storage facility.
Docetti says they will be selecting a final site by 2023.
