A way to strengthen the relationships between the Ontario government and Treaty Three.
Minister of Children and Youth Services Michael Coteau was in Kenora last week to sign a relationship agreement with Grand Chief Francis Kavanaugh regarding the Ontario Indigenous Children and Youth Strategy.
Kavanaugh says the agreement really is about putting the children first.
The agreement gives Treaty Three the control of programs usually controlled by the government including mental health services and child protection services.
Kavanaugh says both sides are working together to address child welfare in their territory.
The deal is the first of its kind in Ontario.
